Dear Guest, Dear people from Biga,Welcome

Biga’nın 2000’li yıllarda stratejisini irdelemek üzere bugün burada toplanmış bulunuyoruz. Bu konuda yapılacak toplantıların ilkidir bu. Konuyu bizler bundan iki yıl önce Umut Vakfı Gürkaynak Yurttaşlık Enstitüsünü Biga’da açarak başlattık.

Yurttaşı, içinde yer aldığı toplumdaki ve parçası olduğu, başkalarıyla paylaştığı dünyamızın sorunlarına ilgi duyan bu sorunları çözme konusunda sorumluluk alan kişi olarak tanımlayabiliriz. Tabii ki böyle bir yurttaş, bu sorumlulukların üstesinden gelebilecek bilgi ve becerilere sahip olması gerekmektedir. Bu becerilerin başında da eğitimli olmak gelmektedir.

İşte Umut Vakfı bu türden yurttaşlık niteliklerini kazandırmak için kurulmuştur. Biga Gürkaynak Yurttaşlık Enstitüsü ise bu niteliklerin alt yapısını oluşturan demokratik becerileri, ilke ve değerlerin kazandırılması için gerekli olan başta, eğitsel her türlü ulusal ve uluslararası girişimi gerçekleştirmek için açılmıştır.

We have gathered here today to examine Biga’s strategy by 2000s. This is the first meeting held on this issue.We’ve started to works on this issue by opening the Umut Foundation Gürkaynak Yurttaşlık (Citizenship) Institute in Biga 2 years ago.

We can define a citizen as a person who is interested to the world’s problem he/she is included and is a part of it and share the problems withthe others and who takes reponsibility in the resolution of these problems. Of course this kind of citizen should have knowledge and skills to overcome these responsibilities. The primary skill is to be educated.

Umut Foundation has been founded in order to bring this kind of citizenship qualities. Biga Gürkaynak Citizenship Institute has been opened in order to realize all kind of national and international educational initiative necessary to bring democratic skills,principles and values constituting the infrastructure of these qualities.

I also wish the issues which will be taken into consideration in this meeting and in the future meetings will found out the way to develop the human ressource which is the economy’s main dynamo beyong just examining Biga’s economical development.

Umut Foundation Biga became one of the leaders on this issue and will continue to be.

As a Foundation,we attach important to mass education rathen than giving individual burary to educate a person.In this framework, we also aim to give computer and language training. I would like to transmit the good news of this today.
