Dear guests;
As we all know, this evening we gathered in order to introduce the Channel Crime and Investigation which has just came into force in Digiturks broadcasting life. The channels executives invited me to make a short evaluation concerning the society of violence in which we are living in and we are obliged to live in.
We established Umut Foundation in 1993 which is better known by its activities dedicated to individual disarmament. The aim of this foundation we established is to assure the youth to be respectful to the rule of law, to be responsible citizens who have a modern conception of the world, to make them prefer peaceful means to resolve disagreements and in this context to make them adopt skills of peacemaking, peacekeeping and peace building.
Violence, which is destructive for both humanity and its environment, is the worst attribute, the deadly disease which humanity somehow fails to get rid off from its first day up to the present evolution process.
Violence is today a communication form used only by primitive people who stay away from the society. Mentally healthy individuals, who take part in developed societies of the developed world, resorting to violence is a situation unbelievable and unacceptable by the majority of the society and lawful order.
In our country also, where the communication ways are not developed and where expressing oneself is culturally difficult, violence is spreading rapidly as all the bad things by taking the place of goodness in recent years and is becoming indispensable for most people
Violence is a contagious and remorseless disease because someone who is exposed to violence becomes a violence practitioner after a while. People, exposed to violence in their childhood, think as they grow up that violence is the only communication way, that if they do not commit violence, they wouldnt make their existence accepted and they would turn into violence practitioners
Once starting to commit it, if the person in front of these violence practitioners accepts their rightness, they will continue to commit violence believing they found a new and effective way. Until they kill a person in order to prove their rightness
Due to the moral structure which still exists in our society and is unfortunately not as strong as the way it used to be, the violence which is increasing continuously and the acts of violence committed with especially firearms, is hurting a big part of the society recently. One out of four families is affected and abused by this kind of event as a violence practitioner, as a violence victim or as a witness. This trauma, which the three sides are exposed in a manner that cant be healed easily, is spreading to the next generation and is also affecting their life negatively.
One of the apparent forms of violence committed in Turkey is individual armament. At present, about nine million individuals carry a weapon in our society and even though we are unaware, the barrels of those weapons are pointed to all of us. Turkeys social structure and its ambition for armament shows similarity with Brazil and Argentinas situation ten years ago and as Umut Foundation our biggest fear is that it is in the near future that people will start to commit massacres as in the U.S. The fact that regrettable events happened due to joy demonstrations in marriages and matches are getting used by the media is an indicator.
In fast communication age, learning has become very easy Whether it is good, whether it is bad, it is now learned through media which is the biggest communication tool and people shape themselves according to the heroes the media has created.
And therefore, there is a further need for programs showing the reason of crimes and more importantly the prevention of crimes and a need for educational channels which broadcast thematically only in these issues. Researches show that committing a crime is turning into an addiction, a life style in societies where there isnt any penalization fear for crimes and is corrupting the society by spreading into its decent part.
According to us, the most important mission of the crime and investigation channel is to show the punishment of the crime, its exposure and the arrest of the criminal without applying to violence elements beyond showing the reasons of the crime, to display the truth as it is and to consolidate our faith regarding that the justice will eventually be served on behalf of all the society.
Thanks to this kind of channels, polices, prosecutors, judges, attorneys and other persons will learn how to implement the law by watching crime prevention strategies and international research methods. Additionally, I think that people who learned the victimhood caused by violence will prefer peaceful settlements instead of resorting to violence.
I totally believe that Crime and Investigation channel will accomplish its law educatory mission with no concessions, will support the settlement of the rule of law and individual disarmament in the society and the constitution of a responsible minded citizen consciousness.
While reminding once again that resorting to violence and using it as a tool will not resolve any of our problems, I want to thank one more time Digiturk for its efforts and social sensibility and wish success to the broadcast life of our new channel Crime and Investigation which is on the track of justice and truth.
