UMUT (HOPE) FOUNDATION OF RAISING HONOURABLE LEADERS

CONDITIONS

As the 7th art, Cinema is an effective communication and education means that reaches out to masses in the easiest and fastest way. For this reason, within Umut Foundation’s traditional “Activities of 28 September Individual Disarmament Day” this year “1 MINUTE CARTOON” has been chosen as the field of the awarded contest. 
SubjectThe subject of the “1 MINUTE CARTOON” has been chosen as - Individual Disarming: Recognizing the right to Life.
GoalIndividual arming is described as people taking firearms, who live in the same society, with no connection to any ideologies. There is no organization in the individual armament. The armament of the states against each other for defense reasons is not considered as “individual arming”. 
The purpose of the contest is to investigate the approaches of the Turkish Animation Artists towards individual armament, thus creating sensitivity in the society regarding the issue, by broadcasting their products in the media and within the activities of Umut Foundation. 
ParticipationEvery artist can participate in the contest with a product that has not been published and awarded in another contest before. 
The contest is open to all artists other than the members of the Selection Committee, and the employees of the Umut Foundation.
The participating artists are free to use all kinds of cartoon techniques that are suitable to express the subject. Films can be either sound or silent. The length of the products cannot be over 1 minute. 
The films should be submitted as a ready to show VHS copy and a CD copy in an envelope, along with the attached form. 
The following statement should take place for 10 seconds (included in 1 minute), at the last coverage of the film

The film should certainly be generic, lasting no longer than 5 seconds (included in 1 minute) 
The admission of the films will start on 15 August 2003. The deadline for submission is the end of the working day on 5 September 2003.

The submission and return expenses are to be paid by the artist.

Awards CeremonyThe prize winning cartoons and cartoons found to be worth showing will be shown on 28 September, 2003 at the Awards Ceremony and the prizes will be presented. 
CopyrightAt the end of the contest, the prize winning cartoons and those shown will be the property of the Umut Fooundation as the producer. The Umut Foundation will have the right to use and show the prize winning cartoons, and those found to be worth showing, in its activities, training, posters, catalogues, brochures, and advertisements. It will also have the right to broadcast them in the media without paying the artist. 
Other PointsArtists who participate in the contest will be considered to have accepted the conditions of the contest and the decisions of the selection committee in advance. 
In the event of indecision, possible disagreements between the artist and the Umut Foundatios or points not determined in the conditions, the Selection Committee will act as the arbitrator. The Selection Committee is authorized to resolve any disagreement.

Individual Disarmament: ENTITLE LIFE themed "1 Minute Animation Film" contest Selecting Committee meeting was held on Monday, September 15th, at the Istanbul Dedeman Hotel.

The Selecting Committee which consists of Umut Foundation Founding President Nazire DEDEMAN, Social Psychologist and Umut Foundation Trustee Prof. Dr. İpek GÜRKAYNAK, President of Short Films Association Oktay GÜZELOĞLU, Head of Animation Film Department, Faculty of Fine Arts, Anadolu University Assoc. Prof. Fetih KABA, President of Caricaturists Association Metin PEKER, Head of Radio Television Department, Faculty of Communication, Marmara University Prof. Dr. Nurçay TÜRKOĞLU, Caricaturist and Animation Film Artist Tonguç YAŞAR has determined the award winning films.
