- About Contest
- SPECIFICATIONPainting; is a media which shelters global criteria where an artist can visually study social issues. This is the reason why Umut Foundation has chosen the ART OF PAINTING for the award contest to be organized this year within the traditional “28 September Individual Disarmament Day Activities”.
ThemeThe theme of this Painting contest has been determined to be Individual Disarmament: Entitle Life.
GoalIndividuals equipped with firearms, living in the same society without belonging to any certain ideology, is described as “Individual Armament”. There is no organizing when it comes to Individual Armament. Arming of Nations against each other or for defense purposes, is outside the scope of “Individual Armament”.
The goal of this contest; is to create sensitivity in the community regarding this issue and to encourage the community to embrace the subject, by studying the approach of Turkish Artists to individual armament and by publishing their artwork at Umut Foundation activities.ParticipationEach artist may participate in this contest with no more than 3 artworks, which have not formerly received an award or participated in any other contest, and have never been formerly displayed/published.
The contest is open to all artists 18 years and older, except members of the Selecting Committee and Umut Foundation employees.
Artists participating in this contest will use oil paint, acrylic or mixed technique on canvas, in line with their own manner of expressing the subject.The size of the artwork to participate in the contest: short side minimum 50 cm., and long side maximum 150 cm.
Paintings should be submitted ready for display, signed, labeled on the back including artist’s first and last names, name of the painting, its dimensions and its price which can not be more than the amount determined for third place award.Artwork that is chosen to be eligible for display by the Selecting Committee will be displayed and an exhibition catalogue will be prepared.
Paintings will be accepted starting on August 16, 2004. Latest date for submission is August 27, 2004 by end of working hours. For paintings sent by mail or shipped by other means, all responsibility belongs to the artist.
Place of SubmissionPaintings should be submitted to: Umut Vakfı Yıldızposta Caddesi No. 52, 34394 Esentepe, Istanbul.

EvaluationThe Selecting Committee determines the paintings found eligible for display and chooses the artwork to receive awards from within these, by September 7, 2004.

Award CeremonyPaintings that received awards and were found eligible for display will be displayed at the Award Ceremony to be organized on September 28, 2004 and awards will be presented to the award winners.
CopyrightAt the end of the contest, all award receiving paintings will be treated as if purchased by Umut Foundation with all rights. Umut Foundation will have the right to use and display, all award receiving paintings and all artwork found eligible for display, at its activities, education activities, posters, catalogues, brochures etc. and all other advertising material as well as the right to publish in the media at no charge. The artist will allow his/her artwork to be displayed at any location dictated by Umut Foundation for a period of 1 (one) year.
Other TermsPaintings that have not received an award or were sold, will be returned to the artists at the end of the display period at the location where they were received or shipped back at the artist’s own expense, with all responsibility belonging to the artist. Umut Foundation is not responsible for the artwork which has not been taken back within one month.All artists that participate in the contest will automatically have accepted the contest terms and the decisions of the Selecting Committee.In case of disputes that may arise between the artist and Umut Foundation, for any terms that have not been mentioned in the specification, the Selecting Committee will be acting as arbitrator. The Selecting Committee for the Image Contest with theme “Individual Disarmament: ENTITLE LIFE” met on Tuesday, September 7 at the Umut Foundation.
The evaluation system was voting by open ballot and 61 out of 187 creations were found to be eligible for display.
The Selecting Committee consisting of Umut Foundation Founding President Nazire DEDEMAN, Prof. Dr. Aydın AYAN, Levent ÇALIKOĞLU, Prof. Dr. Tayfun ERDOĞMUŞ, Haşim Nur GÜREL, Prof. Dr. İpek GÜRKAYNAK, Assoc. Prof. Yavuz Hakan GÜRSOYTRAK, Bora TÜRKKAN, Prof. Dr. Mümtaz SAĞLAM, determined the creations to receive awards.
There will be an exhibition in Istanbul, in December, for the creations that received awards and were found eligible for display. Date and place of this exhibition will be announced.
