"The role of the Other Image" in improving International Relations Project

As part of this joint research project, initiated by the Umut Foundation, which includes Middle East and Balkan countries, it was decided to carry out content evaluations of the Social Studies and Turkish (or equivalent) textbooks for the primary schools and istory, Geography and Citizenship Knowledge textbooks for the Secondary School of the countries in this region and analysis of whether otherizing of each other and/or glorification of their own nations/countries exists. A meeting on this Project which has been going on since July 1996 was held in Istanbul between 27 and 29 June 1997 with the attendance of the experts from the related countries.  According to the decision taken during this meeting Prof. Dr. İpek Gürkaynak has sent out the Turkey Report she has prepared. We are awaiting the reports from the rest of the countries to continue with the Project.
