PRESENTATION

Media and non-governmental areas reflect our social mentality. We see culture, values, living styles and every kind of our social situation that is related with these in this area.

Therefore, the media and the actors in civil society should stand near basic human rights. First of all, media should make broadcasting by considering the benefits and entertainment of the citizens and non-governmental organization should carry out their activities by focusing on the benefit of the “citizen”, make the invisible problems that fall into their field of activity, criticize, develop suggestions and contribute to the development of living practices that fit to the human. Therefore, the collaboration of these two actors is very important.

Umut Foundation that is a non-governmental organization localized in civil society field aimed to attract the attentions to the “individual disarmament” by focusing on “right to live” that is the most basic right of human and with its belief in justice and peace culture.  Being aware about the importance of the journalists in this field, it is very importance for us to take the attention of local media, which we give importance to its existence and deem its development as important in terms of democratic culture, to the violence caused by the individual armament and contribute to the local media in developing an attitude towards this problem. By moving from this point, since last year, we realized the Individual Disarmament and Violence News’ Local Media Seminars in Diyarbakır, Rize and Eskişehir and the 4th of these seminars was organized in Antakya. The book you are holding is a collection of all the said seminar. We hope that it would be a useful source for media and violence literature.

Meanwhile, I sincerely thank to all those who have contributed to our project.
To hopeful tomorrows,

Nazire DEDEMAN
Founder President of Umut Foundation
